Does it put out heat?

Yes. The flames themselves are holographic video projection of fire and do not emit heat themselves. However, our fireplace does include a 5200 btu infrared quartz heater that does make heat and will warm a 800-1000 sq ft room. Our fireplace works best in conjunction with your home’s central heating system.
