If you’re reading this article, you may have heard about the Dimplex Opti V. This is the electric fireplace insert manufactured by Dimplex that uses Holograms and a video of fire to create realistic flames. The flames in the Dimplex Opti-V even have sound to go along with them and appear to be burning from in-between the logs. It’s a nice illusion, but it does have its drawbacks.
How difficult is the Opti-V to install? Very!
To begin with, the Opti-V Dimplex electric fireplace was built to go into walls as a custom edition. That means you cannot simply purchase a wall mantel, slip the insert into it, push it up against the wall and begin to enjoy the Dimplex Opti-V holographic fireplace. Instead, you actually have to cut a hole into your wall, mount support structures for holding the insert in place, hardwire the electrical directly into your home or business’s power system, and then nicely patch up and paint the wall like this Holographic fireplace insert was built into it.
It’s a lot of work to make the Dimplex Opti-V work out of the box.
That’s a heck of a lot of work for somebody that just wants to enjoy some realistic flames. It’s not a bad idea if you’re working on building a new home, but for somebody who just wants to add a beautiful fire to an existing living room, it’s not going to happen without remodeling. That’s not to say that the Dimplex Opti-V holographic electric fireplace doesn’t look good. It actually looks very nice.
The one built-in flame in the Dimplex Opti-V Gets Boring
However, another major problem with it is it only has one flame. When you’re staring at something for hours at a time, even days that turn into weeks, eventually turning all too quickly into months and finally years, the Opti-V by Dimplex will get dull very quickly. Other options on the market offer the same type of holographic effects but with many more built-in flame videos and the same level of quality visuals and perhaps even better sound effects.
How can the Dimplex Opti-V be any good without a heater?
Another major missing component of the Dimplex Opti-V holographic electric fireplace is a heater. What good is an electric fireplace that doesn’t warm you on chilly nights? Apparently, Dimplex didn’t think it was necessary because the Dimplex Opti-V holographic electric fireplace lacks a heater. That means that it’s just not going to warm you up and what the heck is the point of having an electric fireplace? They can’t warm you on those freezing nights—a significant oversight for a product costing $2,500 without a mantel.
Our Verdict is the Dimplex Opti-V electric fireplace is not bad, but you can do better!
Overall, the Dimplex Opti-V holographic electric fireplace insert is not bad if you have a lot of money to burn and don’t mind tearing down a wall to install it. If you’re totally fine with just one flame for the rest of your life and one crackling and popping log sound that you’ll never hear the end of, then go for the Dimplex Opti-V electric fireplace. However, if you’re looking for a high-quality visual using the same type of holographic technology with even more varied and better visuals, and not to mention a ton more videos and sounds to go with it as well as a built-in heater, and a whole laundry list of features for Dimplex Opti-V electric fireplace insert doesn’t have then check out the much better HoloFlame by MagikFlame available at magikflame.com and chances are you’ll probably never look back.
