Yes. You can build your own mantel surround if you purchase our stand-alone insert. Many customers do this. On our website, from the main menu, click under “expert advice”, and then click on the installation guide. There you will find a diagram with the exact dimensions required to build your own mantel.
You can also download a 12 page PDF document with precise dimensions and CAD drawings for your convenience. We recommend that you do not do any type of custom fabrication until you physically have the insert on hand so that there are no surprises when you build your mantel.
